Senate Minutes/ January 19, 2010 Attending: Miyata, Jones, Balint,
Sylver, Tristan Lee (student), Padilla, Tarleton, Hudson, Greenway, Scott,
Overlie Agenda: Levy & Nathan Hale Budget Levy: A school levy is on the ballot every three years. There
are two major types of levies ·
Operations:
80% government funded and 20% school levy ·
Capital
Levy: A. BTA (Building, Technology and Academics) B. BEX (Building Excellence) This year both types (Operations and
BTA) will be on the Feb 9th ballot. Dr. Hudson will email all
staff to inform them of this and address the issue at the PTSA meeting on the
20th. Nathan Hale Budget: It appears that last year we did not
leave enough monies in the budget for stipends. Currently there is $16,000.dollars budgeted for stipends
however we need to make up an additional $16,000. The $1500 per department
that was originally allotted now needs to be used to make up the difference.
If a department truly needs something they need to see Dr. Hudson. Most departments have self help money
and Joyce Ask is working on separating out how much each department has to
spend. The Seattle Public School District has
a projected budget shortfall of 50 million dollars for the next school year.
They anticipate eliminating the gap by cutting 6 million dollars from
downtown operations, 6 million dollars from schools and 38 million dollars
from ending programs. This means that there will be major cuts throughout the
district. Meeting adjourned at 3:43 Respectfully submitted, Sharon Miyata |
